Well, yesterday I had a meeting with OT and Speech Therapist. The OT was very informative. Lot's of things she told me made sense, helped me to understand some of Zech's "ways". She always said "Zech" does this or can't do that. She gave me exercises that I can do at home to help him. So, I learned quite a bit from the OT. Then the speech therapist came in. Zech is currently gets speech with a group. She didn't even at like she knew much about Zech. Never said his name or even "he". She always said "kids with down syndrome" have thick tongues or can talk and just don't want to. I finally said "you must not know Zech very well, doctors have told me he does not have the typical thick tongue, and he talks ALL the time (we just can't understand him)". Then I said I think he would benefit with one on one speech therapy. She said check with my insurance and go to Cookeville. I was totally shocked with her attitude!
Okay, then I go pick him up in the Physical Therapy room. First time I had been there, I thought he went to the gym for that. OMG, It was a large closest off of the mechanical room. Grey and dark blue, like it had previously been a storage room or the Janitors closet. I don't know what is legally required by the state, but this is totally unacceptable to me!!
So, needless to say, I am going to call for another IEP. I am going to request one on one speech therapy and ask what the deal is with the physical therapy room. We'll see what happens.
On another note, Zech and I have the flu. We are going to rest up today, and will feel better tomorrow. Macey had an accident last night. She is fine, but it really scared her. I have told both girls to slow it down, I think they will listen now! I just thank God she wasn't hurt!!!
Have a blessed day!!

You fight for what you want for Zech! He is entitled to an "INDIVIDUAL" education plan, not a multichildren education plan! Sometimes all you need to do is push a bit. If they still give you a hard time check with an advocate.
